   Stuffed Animals

How Ted Bear and his
Friends Became Heroes

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Hailey who owned a lot of cute and cuddly stuffed animals.  Her favorite stuffed animal was named Teddy.  He was very little and he had a red silk ribbon around his neck.   Hailey loved Teddy a lot.

Years and years passed. As Hailey grew up she didn’t have much time for her cute and cuddly stuffed friends any more.  They just sat on the shelf.  They grew older and older too.

One day when Hailey got home from school she found her old friend Teddy crying.  “What’s wrong Teddy,” she asked?

The littlest teddy bear stuck out his lip in a big pout and said, “I hate being cute and cuddly.  I am all grown up too, just like you. I want to be a hero.”

“You are my hero Teddy, Hailey said. Would it help if I started calling you Ted or Theodore instead of Teddy?

“I guess that would help,” he sniffled.

But what I really want is to ride in a police car, or a fire truck.  I want to win the big game for the home team.  I want to rescue abused and abandoned children”

Kerry the Clown just laughed and laughed.  Debbie the Duck and said, “Theodore, You are even more cute and cuddly when you act like a big hero.”

Ted frowned,  “I guess that I can’t help being cute and cuddly, but I don’t have to like it.”

Hailey knew that Ted was right.  He was all grown up and it was time for him get a chance to be a hero.  So she went to her school’s pep club and arranged for a Teddy Bear Toss at the halftime of the big game.  Then she went home and told Ted all about what she had done.  Ted was very excited.  In fact all the stuffed animals were enthusiastic.  They all wanted to join in the fun.

When halftime of the big game came around Ted flew through the air like a supper hero and landed in mid court.  Soon hundreds of other stuffed toys joined him.

When the other side saw all of this team spirit they lost their spark.  They also lost the game.

Kerry the Clown went on to ride in a police car, until she ended up at a car wreck in the arms of a crying girl.

Debbie the Duck got to ride on a fire truck and ring the bell.

Ted Bear went into the arms of an abandoned little orphan boy who needed a cute and cuddly hero to give him real big hug.

 The End

What is a Teddy Bear Toss?

A Teddy Bear Toss is a way for people to show their team spirit and to help children in crises at the same time.  During halftime of a big game the fans are encouraged to shower hundreds of lightly used stuffed toys onto the court.  Then the stuffed toys are bagged up and given to the Big Family.   They pass them along, free of charge, to agencies that deal with children who are under stress.   (They need thousands of stuffed toys every year)
